Private 5G technology is steadily gaining ground in India, with Tidal Wave Technologies and Consort Digital announcing the successful completion of the country’s first pilot project for 5G-based mission-critical communications within the mining sector.

The groundbreaking proof of concept was carried out at the Amlohri Coal Mine in Madhya Pradesh, operated by Northern Coalfields Limited, a subsidiary of Coal India.

The pilot utilised Consort Digital’s MCX ONE platform on a private 5G network provided by Tidal Wave Technologies. This demonstration marked a significant milestone as the first of its kind in India, specifically designed to meet the demanding requirements of mining operations. The project integrated multiple OEM devices, including 5G drones, cameras, and environmental sensors, to test the interoperability, scalability, and practicality of deploying mission-critical solutions on a private 5G network.

Ankit Dixit, CEO of Tidal Wave Technologies, expressed pride in the collaboration, emphasising that the partnership aims to bring advanced 5G solutions to essential industries like mining. He highlighted that the pilot demonstrated how private 5G networks could offer the resilience, security, and high performance necessary for critical operations in challenging environments.

Sarabjeet Bhasin, Technical Director at Consort Digital, added that this proof of concept confirms the readiness of their platform for real-world deployment. He noted that the project also paves the way for transitioning from traditional narrowband systems and TETRA radio to broadband 5G solutions, marking a significant step toward modernising mission-critical communications in India’s industrial sectors.
