CelcomDigi to share infrastructure with Time dotcom

24 October 2023

CelcomDigi plans to boost its home fibre broadband business via an infrastructure-sharing deal with Time dotcom. CelcomDigi will use Time’s fibre broadband infrastructure to extend its fibre broadband service to more homes, especially condominiums and apartments.

The move could help accelerate CelcomDigi’s fibre broadband uptake. The company had 107,000 fibre-based fixed broadband subscriptions at the end of the first quarter of 2023, up from 86,000 the previous year. However, that places it in last place in Malaysia’s fibre broadband market. In the same quarter, Telekom Malaysia had just over 3 million Unifi Fibre subscribers. Maxis was a distant second with 601,000 fibre broadband subscribers.

CelcomDigi deputy CEO Albern Murty said that by leveraging existing infrastructure, the operator can offer bundled mobile and fibre packages that complement customer experience as a one-stop for connectivity needs. It also enables CelcomDigi to roll out broadband internet services to new customers more quickly and cost-efficiently.

“We’ve made access to Time’s gig-speed network available to internet service providers for some time now,” said executive director of Time Datuk Zainal Amanshah. “We believe gig-speed internet should be made available to as many Malaysians as possible, and we continue to expand our coverage across Malaysia to that end.”
