Chennai airport to gain TETRA comms

25 January 2023

Chennai airport is shortly expected to introduce Terrestrial Trunked Radio (TETRA) to offer secure wireless communication in the terminals and airside operational areas.

The upgrade will enhance operational efficiency by providing a secure and reliable radio link for airline operators, airport staff and the control tower.

Wireless communication is used by staff at check in, baggage handling, customs, immigration, security, boarding, fuel stations, and maintenance. A 40m tower was installed by Airports Authority of India (AAI) at Chennai Airport for the radio network. This is the first time an airport run by AAI will be introducing the new system.
