Nokia and Microscan Infocommtech to expand optical network capacity in India

Nokia has announced a strategic partnership with Indian fibre networking services provider Microscan Infocommtech to deploy its advanced optical network solutions across Microscan’s DWDM backbone in Mumbai and Pune. The deployment aims to address the rapidly growing bandwidth demands from enterprise customers, OTT providers, financial institutions, and hyperscalers in the region.

The new metro and regional optical network will leverage Nokia’s Photonic Service Engine (PSE) technology, along with its 1830 Photonic Service Switch (PSS) equipped with CDC-F 2.0 architecture, capable of flexibly delivering wave services exceeding 400G. Nokia stated that this architecture will enable Microscan to build a more agile, scalable, and cost-efficient backbone network, positioning it to better serve its expanding customer base.

Malaysian telcos launch federated network service to combat online fraud via GSMA Open Gateway

Malaysian telecommunications operators CelcomDigi, Maxis, U Mobile, Telekom Malaysia, and YTL Communications have announced plans to introduce a new federated network platform through the GSMA Open Gateway initiative, aiming to bolster security for online businesses against fraud and digital identity theft.

This collaborative effort will leverage the open network APIs developed under the GSMA’s CAMARA standard, specifically focusing on the Number Verification API, which is designed to enhance real-time user identification processes.

Rakuten Symphony has announced a strategic partnership with Bangladeshi telecom operator Grameenphone to develop an Open Radio Access Network (Open RAN), marking one of the first pilot projects of its kind in South Asia.

The initial phase of the project will deploy a network comprising both 4G and 5G non-Standalone (NSA) sites, serving as a foundation for a potential nationwide rollout across Grameenphone’s extensive network, which caters to approximately 86 million subscribers.

Nokia to modernise Viettel’s broadband network in Hanoi

Nokia has announced a contract to upgrade and modernize the broadband network of Viettel in Hanoi, the capital city. The company will deploy its Broadband Network Gateway–Control User Plane Separation (BNG-CUPS) technology across Hanoi’s metropolitan area, aiming to streamline operations and enhance the customer experience.

This deployment is part of Vietnam’s broader digital transformation ambitions, as the country strives for the digital economy to account for 30% of its GDP by 2030. Achieving this goal will require significant investments in telecommunications infrastructure, including extensive broadband networks to support rapid industrialization and economic growth.
