Viettel opens new DC in Hanoi

Viettel has opened a data centre in Hoa Lac Tech Park, Hanoi, Vietnam, which boasts more than 2,400 racks across 21,000 sqm of floor space, with a total capacity of 30MW.

The data centre is designed with high capacity to meet rising AI demands and is claimed to be the largest in Vietnam. It is also the first data centre in Vietnam committed to using renewable energy for 30% of its electricity consumption.

DoT launches experiment licence module for 5G labs

India’s Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has launched an experimental licence module that will allow its established 5G labs across India to test 5G use cases.

The DoT has set up 5G use case labs within 100 institutes across the country with the objective to build competencies and engagement in 5G technologies for students and startup communities. The experimental licence from the DoT will enable those labs to use 5G spectrum bands to test whatever use cases they come up with without interfering with commercial 5G services.

Telkomsel launches eSIM service

Telkomsel has launched an eSIM service for local customers, making it the last of the country’s major operators to do so, as the industry awaits upcoming eSIM regulations from telecoms regulator Kominfo.

Smartfren was the first telco in the market to launch eSIMs in 2019. Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison and XL Axiata launched eSIM services late last year.

Ncell boosts 4G connectivity speeds

Ncell has boosted connectivity speeds for its 4G service in various districts of the Lumbini and Bagmati provinces as part of an ongoing drive to improve Quality of Service (QoS) for customers.

Customers in the Bagmati districts of Chautara Sangachowk Gadhi, Indrasarowar, Manthali and Thaha now have faster 4G connections, as do customers in the districts of Bhumekasthan, Chandrakot, Malarani, Mathagadhi, Pyuthan, Rambha, Sandhikharka, Tansen and Tinau in Lumbini.
