In a filing on 3 November, Airtel disclosed that a special committee of directors approved the acquisition of additional shares over time, either in one or multiple tranches.
Currently holding a 51.03% stake, Airtel considers Indus Towers a strategic asset vital to its operations. The company noted that it will continuously evaluate opportunities to consolidate its ownership, balancing the need for capital expenditure, dividend payments, and market conditions.
Following the announcement, Indus Towers’ shares surged 2.5% to INR 392.30, with earlier gains of 5.2% on the same day after the Supreme Court clarified that the government could reassess and reconcile all Adjusted Gross Revenue (AGR) dues of Vodafone Idea up to FY2016–17. This development was viewed positively for Indus Towers, given Vodafone Idea’s significant contribution to its revenue.
Indus Towers manages over 256,000 telecom towers across all 22 Indian telecom circles, serving all major wireless operators in the country. The company's expansion and ownership movements underscore its central role in supporting India’s rapidly growing digital connectivity landscape.
