The Tata Communications MOVE platform, which is GSMA-accredited and delivered through its subsidiary Tata Communications Collaboration Services, enables BSNL to remotely provision 2G, 3G, and 4G connectivity for millions of subscribers via secure QR codes, removing the necessity for physical SIM cards.
Devices supporting dual-SIM functionality can now operate with both an eSIM and a traditional SIM, offering users greater convenience, especially when traveling internationally, by allowing seamless switching between local operators without changing physical cards. BSNL’s chairman and managing director, A Robert Ravi, emphasized that the rollout of pan-Indian eSIM services marks a significant milestone in enhancing customer experience and future-proofing India’s mobile connectivity. He highlighted that Tata Communications’ expertise in connectivity and innovation plays a vital role in strengthening the security, flexibility, and efficiency of mobile services nationwide.
The telco initially soft-launched its eSIM offerings in Tamil Nadu in August. Recently, BSNL also announced the launch of its nationwide 4G network, which is notable for being built entirely on an indigenous 4G stack developed collaboratively by Tata Consultancy Services, the Center for Development of Telematics (C-DOT), and Tejas Networks. This development signifies a major step toward greater self-reliance in India’s telecommunications infrastructure, with the eSIM rollout serving as a key component of the country’s broader digital and connectivity ambitions.
