According to PLDT, their Network Strategy and Architecture team successfully tested Radisys’ point-to-multipoint FWA system, which enables a single base station to connect with multiple remote radio nodes installed at customer premises. During the trial, the network achieved impressive speeds of 945 Mbps for downloads and 929 Mbps for uploads. The tests also included various applications such as video streaming, web browsing, YouTube, TikTok, Facebook, and Instagram, all running smoothly over the FWA connection.
Radisys VP Radames Zalameda highlighted that the technology has already seen successful deployment in large markets like India. He emphasised that adapting this proven solution for the Philippine environment presents a significant opportunity, particularly in regions where laying fibre remains difficult or costly.
Lennart Olaivar, AVP and head of PLDT’s Wireless Network Strategy and Transformation Office, explained that point-to-multipoint FWA offers a simplified and quicker approach to delivering high-speed internet without extensive civil works. This makes it especially suitable for hard-to-reach or underserved areas, potentially accelerating digital inclusion across the country.
This trial reflects PLDT’s ongoing efforts to diversify and enhance connectivity options in the Philippines, aiming to bridge infrastructure gaps and expand high-speed internet access using innovative, cost-effective solutions.
