This collaboration aims to revolutionize how weather forecasts inform farming decisions by utilizing Tomorrow.io’s AI-powered models combined with its proprietary network of low Earth orbit (LEO) satellites. The technology enables micro-weather forecasting at the individual plot level, providing farmers with precise, real-time agronomic advice — such as optimal timing for pesticide application or irrigation delays based on anticipated rainfall.
With the southwest monsoon already impacting parts of the Philippines and signalling the start of the rainy season, the timing of this initiative is crucial. The archipelago’s complex geography presents unique weather monitoring challenges that traditional ground-based systems cannot fully address. Tomorrow.io’s satellite constellation is specifically designed to fill these gaps, delivering high-resolution, real-time weather data across the entire country, including its most remote and underserved regions.
Tomorrow.io gathers atmospheric data globally through its satellite network. Its physics-based, AI-enhanced models process this data to generate highly accurate weather forecasts. These insights are then delivered via a scalable software platform, enabling proactive risk management for agriculture and other sectors.
The licensing agreement extends beyond agriculture, opening opportunities in sectors such as shipping and aviation, where precise weather information is critical for safety and operational efficiency.
This initiative echoes a similar project in Africa, where Tomorrow.io partnered with MTN Group in 2023 to provide early weather warnings to over 300 million at-risk individuals, demonstrating the company's potential to support vulnerable populations in emerging markets through innovative weather solutions.
