India's 5G subscriber base reaches 250 million

26 March 2025

India's 5G subscriber base has surged to approximately 250 million since the commercial launch of 5G services nearly two and a half years ago, according to recent statistics from the Ministry of Communications. This remarkable growth marks a significant milestone in the country's transition to advanced mobile connectivity.

As of the end of 2024, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) reported a total of 898.57 million mobile broadband subscribers in the country. While TRAI does not specify subscriber numbers by network generation, the Ministry's figure indicates that 5G users now represent about 27.8% of the total mobile broadband subscriber base.

The Ministry also disclosed that as of 28 February, telecom operators have established 469,000 5G base stations across all states and union territories, achieving an impressive 99.6% network availability in all districts. The deployment has surpassed the minimum rollout obligations set by regulatory authorities, demonstrating a robust commitment to expanding 5G infrastructure.

As India's 5G infrastructure continues to expand and evolve, the growing subscriber base highlights the increasing reliance on mobile broadband services and the potential for further advancements in connectivity, innovation, and digital transformation across various sectors.
