Bihar receives government funding for 4G/5G rollout

02 January 2025

Bihar, a state in east India bordering Nepal, has received Rs 1100 crore from the central government of India for 4G and 5G rollout.

The government has provided the state with these funds so that a deeper level of high-speed broadband connectivity can be achieved. All areas not covered with mobile networks currently will be targeted with these funds. BSNL will be rolling out 4G and 5G in the state in the coming months.

All the villages in Bihar and the hilly regions where network connectivity is poor or not present will get 4G services from BSNL by May 2025. Around 26,000 villages across India are not covered by mobile networks, the report added. The Indian government wants to bring high-speed broadband connectivity to all villages in the country, and for that, about Rs 30,000 crores have been earmarked.

BSNL's target to roll out 4G in 1 lakh sites is by June 2025. After that, it will focus on rolling out 5G. The 4G and 5G spectrum has been allocated to BSNL under the multiple relief packages announced by the central government in the last five years. Apart from Jio, BSNL is the only telecom operator which has access to 10 MHz of bandwidth in the 700 MHz spectrum band.
