Vietnam Internet Network Information Center (VNNIC) has struck a deal with CMC Telecom to establish a PoP connecting to Vietnam National Internet eXchange (VNIX) in one of its data centres.
According to a strategic cooperation agreement, VNNIC will set up the VNIX PoP at CMC Telecom's neutral data centre at Tân Thuận in Ho Chi Minh City. The PoP enables enterprises to peer directly with VNIX without deploying independent physical transmission lines and setting up their own PoPs.
“Organizations, companies, and individuals with Internet addresses in Vietnam will be able to connect and exchange Internet traffic more easily, more cheaply, and with more quality and convenience,” said VNNIC director Nguyen Hong Thang.
The agreement is part of VNNIC’s broader strategy to develop VNIX under the ‘National Digital Transformation Program to 2025, orientation to 2030’ decision issued by the Prime Minister in June 2020. Under that programme, VNNIC is tasked with developing and implementing VNIX in line with international standards, digitizing infrastructure, connecting digital platforms, and promoting the development of Vietnam's digital ecosystem.
VNNIC is currently expanding and diversifying its service packages and establishing VNIX PoPs at various Vietnam ISPs. The VNIX PoP at the CMC Telecom data centre is the first of these.
CMC Telecom’s newly opened Tân Thuận data centre sports a capacity of 10MW, as well as Tier 3 uptime design certification. It’s one of three data centres CMC Telecom owns and operates in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.
CMC Telecom said its digital infrastructure meets VNIX’s environmental conditions and physical connectivity requirements, including minimum 1+1 connection protection, 'five-nines' availability, 24/7 customer support and ensured scalability when traffic exceeds or reaches 75% of transmission line capacity.
