Bharti Airtel has announced its role as the landing partner for the 2Africa Pearls subsea cable in India. This ambitious project aims to establish a comprehensive network linking Africa, India, and Europe through the Middle East, significantly bolstering international connectivity.

The 2Africa Pearls cable is poised to deliver an impressive capacity of over 100Tbps to India, thereby enhancing Airtel's global network and supporting the country's aspirations for digital growth. This partnership is a collaboration that also includes 2Africa Pearls’ investors, center3 and Meta, both of which bring significant expertise and resources to the project. The 2Africa Pearls cable is part of the more extensive 2Africa cable system, which will cover more than 45,000km across Asia, Africa, and Europe, strengthening the digital backbone of these regions.

India's 5G subscriber base reaches 250 million

India's 5G subscriber base has surged to approximately 250 million since the commercial launch of 5G services nearly two and a half years ago, according to recent statistics from the Ministry of Communications. This remarkable growth marks a significant milestone in the country's transition to advanced mobile connectivity.

As of the end of 2024, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) reported a total of 898.57 million mobile broadband subscribers in the country. While TRAI does not specify subscriber numbers by network generation, the Ministry's figure indicates that 5G users now represent about 27.8% of the total mobile broadband subscriber base.

BSNL to launch 5G rollout following expansion of 4G Network

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has announced plans to initiate its 5G rollout in the upcoming months as part of a broader strategy to enhance its network capabilities.

Currently, the company is focused on expanding its 4G infrastructure, with an ambitious goal of deploying 100,000 sites by June 2025. As of now, BSNL has activated over 75,000 sites, with more than 80,000 installations in place. The operator is confident that it will meet its target and have all 100,000 sites fully operational by the specified deadline.
