MEASAT Global Berhad has partnered once again with Apadilangit Space Academy to launch the Malaysia Space Dream initiative, a program designed to ignite young Malaysians’ interest in space science and technology.

As part of this collaboration, MEASAT hosted two engaging sessions of the Postcard to Space activity at its Cyberjaya headquarters, aiming to inspire students and their families to explore the wonders of space.

The first session took place on 22 November, involving 50 secondary students aged 13 to 18, while a Family Day event followed on 29 November, welcoming MEASAT employees and their children aged seven and above. The Malaysia Space Dream initiative is a multi-phase program that seeks to nurture a new generation of space industry talent through activities such as Postcard to Space, an Earth & Space Online Hackathon, and a National Space Camp. During the Postcard to Space activity, participants create postcards expressing their space dreams using AI tools guided by Apadilangit Space Academy. These postcards are then printed and sent to Blue Origin’s Club for the Future in the United States, where they are launched more than 100 kilometers into space aboard a rocket. Once returned, the postcards are marked with a “Flown to Space” stamp and sent back to the participants as keepsakes. Apadilangit Space Academy is the official partner of Blue Origin in Malaysia for this project.

Participants also enjoyed interactive demonstrations and a guided tour of MEASAT’s facilities, learning how the company’s satellites and technology connect and empower communities across Malaysia and beyond. MEASAT’s Chief Operating Officer, Yau Chyong Lim, expressed pride in the collaboration, emphasising the importance of inspiring young Malaysians through tangible space experiences and AI tools. He highlighted the company’s commitment to developing a strong talent pipeline aligned with Malaysia’s National Space Policy 2030, which aims to foster a sustainable and competitive space ecosystem for national growth, security, and prosperity.

Hafez Murtza, CEO of Apadilangit Space Academy, shared his appreciation for MEASAT’s support, noting that the initiative aims to make space exploration tangible and accessible to young Malaysians. He emphasised that early exposure and hands-on experiences can inspire youth to turn their imagination into reality, contributing to the nation’s space development goals.

The Postcard to Space phase aims to collect at least 5,000 postcards nationwide from students at all levels, promoting widespread participation. The Earth & Space Online Hackathon will involve 300 students forming 100 teams to address real-world environmental challenges using space data, AI, and innovative solutions. From this, 60 students will be selected for the National Space Camp to gain practical knowledge in robotics, satellites, rocketry, and AI for space, further honing their skills in critical thinking, creativity, teamwork, and communication.

Supported by various organisations, including the Malaysia Space Agency, MIGHT, MDEC, MASIC, the Malaysian Scouts Association, SpaceTech Malaysia, and PIKOM, the Malaysia Space Dream initiative aims to foster a vibrant space ecosystem in the country.
