MEASAT Advisor Bala Doraisamy honoured with Lifetime Achievement Award by APSCC

05 November 2025

MEASAT Global Berhad has received further recognition from the Asia Pacific Space Community Council (APSCC), with its Advisor, Balakrishnan Doraisamy (Bala), being awarded the 2025 Lifetime Achievement Award at the 26th Annual APSCC Space Conference and Exhibition in Taipei.

APSCC, a non-profit organisation representing diverse sectors of the satellite and space industries — including private companies, government agencies, and academic institutions — hosts this prestigious awards event annually to honour visionaries and industry leaders whose innovations and strategic initiatives have significantly advanced the satellite and space sectors across Asia Pacific.

Bala’s career spans over 40 years in finance, with more than three decades dedicated to the global satellite industry. His extensive international perspective has contributed to the success of numerous organisations, including significant tenures at MEASAT from 1990 to 2006, and at Al Yah Satellite Communications (Yahsat) in the UAE from 2008 to 2023. Since 2024, Bala has served as an Advisor at MEASAT, where he continues to influence the industry by guiding strategic direction, investor relations, and growth initiatives focused on satellite innovation. His early leadership at MEASAT was instrumental in establishing the company as Malaysia’s core national satellite solutions provider, translating vision into reality through strategic financial planning and execution. At Yahsat, where he served as Group CFO and advisor to the CEO, Bala played a key role in the company’s rise to international prominence, laying the foundation for the creation of Space42, a merger between Yahsat and Bayanat, a geospatial analytics firm.

Expressing his honor at receiving the award, Bala highlighted his lifelong dedication to advancing the satellite industry: “for more than three decades, I have committed myself to growing the space and satellite sector — growing with MEASAT in Malaysia and Yahsat in the UAE, as well as other companies globally. I believe there is a vital role for regional satellite operators amidst intense competition from global players and large LEO constellations. We must stay the course to contribute positively to the emerging space economy.”

MEASAT has a history of recognition from APSCC, including COO Yau Chyong Lim receiving the Satellite Executive of the Year award in 2022 and multiple young engineers awarded the APSCC Young Talent Award. The company’s current Advisor, Dr. Ali R. Ebadi, previously received a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2013 and a Special Award in 2008, further underscoring MEASAT’s ongoing contribution to the industry’s leadership and innovation.
