The 2Africa Pearls cable is poised to deliver an impressive capacity of over 100Tbps to India, thereby enhancing Airtel's global network and supporting the country's aspirations for digital growth. This partnership is a collaboration that also includes 2Africa Pearls’ investors, center3 and Meta, both of which bring significant expertise and resources to the project. The 2Africa Pearls cable is part of the more extensive 2Africa cable system, which will cover more than 45,000km across Asia, Africa, and Europe, strengthening the digital backbone of these regions.
The cable project is backed by a consortium of prominent players in the telecommunications space, including Bayobab, center3, China Mobile International, Meta, Orange, Telecom Egypt, Vodafone Group, and the West Indian Ocean Cable Company. The manufacturing and installation of the cable will be handled by Alcatel Submarine Networks, a leader in undersea cable technology.
“We are thrilled to bring the 2Africa Pearls cable to India, strengthening our network resilience. We are aggressively expanding our global infrastructure and recently landed the SEA-ME-WE 6 cable in Chennai and Mumbai. We will continue investing in global cable systems to future-proof our network and ensure high uptime, reliability, and superior quality for our customers,” said Sharat Sinha, Director and CEO of Airtel Business.
